New Common Core Forum (CCF) Launches Free Educational Seminar Series
Citizen Group Welcomes Dr. Duke Pesta to Shrewsbury, June 9th

SHREWSBURY, MA (May 27, 2014) – Massachusetts parents, grandparents, activists and former educators have formed Common Core Forum (CCF) – a new organization dedicated to enlightening the public about the proposed Common Core States Standards, usually referred to as Common Core (CC).

The Common Core Forum is a statewide all-volunteer, non-partisan group that does not accept donations.

Donna Colorio, founder of the Common Core Forum, and former Worcester School Committee member states, "CCF's goal is to keep Massachusetts public schools #1. We are doing that by educating parents, school committees, school administrators and legislators.” She continued, “CCF believes in local control of public education, high academic standards, and maximum parental input. Our members strongly believe implementing Common Core will lower student achievement and threaten the considerable gains Massachusetts has made with Ed Reform. "

Common Core Forum’s informational series begins with Dr. Duke Pesta, Professor of English, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. He will provide examples of how Common Core threatens to undermine, weaken, and centralize public and private education in the Commonwealth and throughout America. Dr. Pesta has spoken about Common Core to over 100 groups in the past year.

Dr. Pesta will speak at the Floral Street School, 57 Floral Street on Monday, June 9th, Shrewsbury, MA, 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Admission is free and open to the public. Note: Online registration is available and encouraged via https://commoncoreforumdrpesta.eventbrite.com

Members of the press are welcome, and Dr. Pesta will be available to speak to reporters at 6:30pm.

For more information and opportunities to get involved in the Common Core Forum, visit: CCF’s website www.commoncoreforum.org and related Facebook Page. CCF is on Twitter @CommonCoreForum.

New Local PAC Announces Release of its Website

NewMassPlaybookPAC.com Explains how a New Republican ‘Playbook’ can be Put Into Action

BOSTON - - A newly formed local political action committee announced Monday the release of its website,www.newmassplaybookpac.com. Visitors to the PAC’s website will not only have a convenient place to donate, but will also be able to learn about the PAC’s mission, which is to ensure that quality, Massachusetts Republican Candidates have the resources they need to succeed and outreach in different urban areas of the Commonwealth.

In this spirit, the PAC will look to assist candidates primarily competing in city races to identify more conservative, minority and unaffiliated voters, and give the Party an opportunity to win in more municipalities. A detailed PowerPoint presentation on the website explains specifically what the PAC believes the Massachusetts Republican Party and candidates across the Commonwealth can do to win more elections statewide ranging from Senator or Governor to local municipal elections in order to restore two-party balance to the Commonwealth.

“We believe the PAC’s website can become a destination for Republican candidates, strategists, and activists who are looking for a new ‘playbook’ that will lead to more victories and stronger campaigns,” said Dean Cavaretta, the PAC’s Chairman and the 2012 Republican Candidate for State Senate in the Middlesex Worcester District. “Working collaboratively with all conservatives, we are trying to lay a new path forward to victory.”

The PAC is inspired by the principles in the 2010 website, www.newmassplaybook.com, written by Malden City Councilor David D’Arcangelo, who is not involved with the PAC due to Massachusetts Campaign Laws. As an implementation of the ‘playbook,’ the new website will also promote campaign best practices and what popular, conservative principles look like - such as local control, smaller government, lower taxes, and school choice.

In the future, the website will also help visitors connect with and become involved with specific 2013/2014 campaigns.

The website will also list upcoming events: NMP PAC will host its next event on Wednesday, August 28th at Capone’s Restaurant in Peabody from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Municipal candidates from the North Shore area will be in attendance. Mary Z. Connaughton, 2010 Candidate for State Auditor and current Director of Administration and Finance at the Pioneer Institute, will be their special guest.

Lessons Learned from the CA 16th Senate Race; Gov. Christie's Re-Election

As Massachusetts Republicans suffered another loss in the recent U.S. Senate Special Election, now is the time to try new campaign strategies and marketing techniques crucial to turning the tide. In the last one hundred and two statewide elections, Massachusetts Republicans have only won two of those contests.

Why is this happening?  Simply put, Massachusetts Republican candidates have failed to garner enough votes in cities where a larger percentage of the state’s registered, likely voters reside. For example, Mr. Markey’s best performances were in cities that consisted of more than 20,000 likely voters; whereas, Mr. Gomez’s best performances were only in communities with a few hundred or thousand voters.

All hope is not lost. Republicans in other states have provided a model for success that can be adopted by our candidates. Some have taken advantage of reaching out to different voters who reside in large, urban areas.  In New Jersey, Republican Governor Chris Christie has opened a bilingual office in the City of Paterson, in which Democrats have a 9-1 voter registration advantage over Republicans, in a serious attempt to attract more Hispanic voters.

Furthermore, Christie has established the “Hispanics for Christie” Coalition.  Prior to that, the Governor received several high-level endorsements from leading Bishop Reginald Jackson, along with a dozen African-American clergymen, in addition to the Latino Leadership PAC, who generally endorses Democratic candidates. Christie made this possible by focusing on a hallmark issue that is at the heart of concerns for minority and younger voters: education.  Through spearheading school-choice options and policies, Governor Christie has motivated African-American and Hispanic voters to vote for a Republican statewide candidate.

In California, Andy Vidak, a Republican candidate for State Senate, won a recent Special Election in which Democrats have a whopping 22-1 voter registration advantage over Republicans. Moreover, 60% of the residents in this district are Hispanic. Nevertheless, Mr. Vidak defeated his Democratic opponent, Leticia Perez, 54%-46%. How did this happen? Mr. Vidak focused on bread-and-butter issues that are crucial to voters: taxes, spending, state government's fraud and inefficiency. Vidak's campaign also focused on GOTV with special emphasis on registering college voters and getting them to the polls in-district.

These examples suggest that our candidates here can develop a set of policy issues and initiatives that are critical for urban, college and minority voters. Furthermore, Christie and Vidak demonstrate that success is possible by Massachusetts conservatives not ignoring major urban areas. We suggest growing the playing field in an attempt to minimize losses in our cities, or better yet, identifying NEW sub-groups of voters necessary for our state party to grow and boost our registration levels for the 2014 election cycle and beyond.

Lastly, by focusing on grassroots campaigning; crafting an appealing platform for urban and minority voters based on conservative principles; and opening more field offices in heavily populated settings, our candidates will be able to orchestrate viable, and arguably successful candidacies for both local and statewide offices in many more geographic areas of our Commonwealth.

New Local Republican PAC Announces First Fundraiser

NewMassPlaybook PAC to Hold Fundraiser July 25th in Malden, MA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
7/17/13

BOSTON - - A newly formed political action committee announced Wednesday that it will be holding its first fundraising event.  NewMassPlaybook PAC, formed recently by local Republican political activists from across Massachusetts, will hold its first fundraiser on Thursday, July 25th in Malden at the Exchange Street Bistro from 6:30-8:30pm.

The goal of the first fundraiser will be to introduce the PAC’s mission and begin raising money.  The PAC’s mission is to ensure that quality, Massachusetts Republican Candidates have the resources they need to succeed and outreach in different urban areas of the Commonwealth. The PAC will also look to assist conservative candidates in competing in untapped, urban areas to identify more support among voters, and give the State Party an opportunity to win more municipalities.

“We’re looking forward to introducing the PAC and its unique mission to the public,” said Dean Cavaretta, the PAC’s Chairman and the 2012 Republican Candidate for State Senate in the Middlesex and Worcester District.  “With several local elections scheduled for this fall and then the 2014 statewide election, we believe we can have an immediate impact on restoring two-party balance to the Commonwealth. And, we believe it starts locally, from the ground up.”

The PAC is inspired by the principles in the NewMassPlaybook, www.newmassplaybook.com, written by David D’Arcangelo who is not involved with the PAC due to Massachusetts Campaign Laws. The new ‘playbook’ suggestions include proposing a formula for how the Massachusetts Republican Party should fund candidates for various offices.

Another proposal suggests the party increase outreach to urban voters by assisting municipal or legislative candidates running locally.  As an implementation of the ‘playbook,’ NewMassPlaybook PAC will look to inform urban voters of classic conservative principles like smaller government, lower taxes, and school choice.

Argeo Paul Cellucci: The Common Man with an Uncommon Touch

A Common Man with An Uncommon Touch

Dear Friends:

In the coming days and weeks many condolences and numerous words of fondness will undoubtedly pour in at the passing of former Governor Argeo Paul Cellucci.
Our deepest condolences go out to Jan and the entire Cellucci Family. Paul was our Small Town MA Governor who never forgot where he came from. He was Hudson's finest who became America's Representative to Canada during the Presidency of George W. Bush.

Now, our Republican 'Harry Truman' belongs to the ages, and Massachusetts Politics will never be the same. I am already struck at how many people are stopping to observe, how Paul positively impacted them. So like all of them, from governors to business leaders to presidents and to local merchants or teachers in downtown Hudson or Marlborough or Acton - I am so very proud to call Paul Cellucci "my friend."

For me, a fellow Italian-American from MetroWest, Paul made politics relevant and public service a noble calling. Like many of us who served under his Administration, his career literally changed the trajectory of our lives. It was the honor of a lifetime for Paul to endorse my 2012 campaign for State Senate in Middlesex Worcester, as I proudly sought the seat he once held. He never discouraged me in that challenging political campaign, nor since I followed him into Massachusetts politics some 17 years ago.  In fact, he was never far from my mind whenever I would campaign - in any race or at any time I went before the voters.

Politically, he was the gold standard in constituent service. And, he will always come to symbolize the rights of the local taxpayer or small business enterprise to spend and save their hard earned money in a free market economy. Democrat or Republican, in Central Massachusetts, Paul Cellucci was the 'Ted Williams' of the Legislature - and the rest of us who either pursued office or served at the State House were merely his step children.

So goodbye, Governor. Thank you for your service and never waiving friendship. Thank you for your courage during your public battle with ALS. In retrospect, taking this final battle public was hardly a surprise. For that was merely Your Way: One reaches out to their colleagues and neighbors; You work with all sides without compromising principles; You never back down from adversity or difficult odds; and then, just when it seems things cannot get better you proactively and definitively improve the lot of others.

From Hudson to Ottowa, from Washington to Marlborough we are all better off thanks to The Cellucci Way.  And, we will never forget the common man with an uncommon touch.

Dean

Single Party Rule Hurting Massachusetts

Dear Blog Readers,

We were struck by the very troubling story that came out of the State Auditor’s Office on Wednesday, 3/27 that a recent internal audit turned up 119 instances where registered sex offenders were living at the same address as licensed childcare centers.
Upon further investigation, we realized that the very state agency that should have been providing the sort of oversight that would have protected children from the threat of sexual abuse was the state agency being run by Sherri Killins, the former commissioner who was recently reported in the press to have been living in New Haven, CT while working at an internship job in Ware, MA, and collecting $200,000 per year in salary for her full-time state position. Killins was appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick, and she recently resigned over the reports.

But these facts do not stand alone. Back in September, John Burbine was arrested and charged with molesting 13 children in his wife’s unlicensed daycare center in Wakefield.

It seems incomprehensible after that arrest, conversations weren’t occurring at the highest levels of state government to ensure that licensure of daycare centers was being done effectively, and setting in motion checks and balances to ensure the safety of our most fragile citizens: our children.

Single Party Rule in Massachusetts is placing at risk our most valued things. We need to level the playing field and bring some accountability back to Beacon Hill by electing different voices and new faces. We have an opportunity to do just that by supporting Leah Cole in the Peabody Special State Election on Tuesday, April 2nd (www.coleforpeabody.com)

It is time to change the culture on Beacon Hill. One legislative seat at a time.
